Citrumed Cold Sore Treatment Studies
We are posting the results of our studies here on our website. If you can find just one other website that does that, please let us know. While many websites talk about studies they have done, none are posting any data. Worse, when we asked them to give us some detail on the study, we were told verbally we should ask for it in writing. When we did that, we did not receive a reply.
The only study data we were able to find was about the FDA study done for Abreva. Since GlaxoSmithKline, a very reputable company that also sells Valtrex, sells Abreva, it is not surprising they are making their data available. But that is it. If there is anyone else who has data out there, please let us know, we would love to read about it.
INTRODUCTION:
We have developed a topical application for the temporary relief of herpes outbreaks (HSV1 and HSV2) that works better than any other product on the market today. It is important to note that our product is indeed all natural with no chemicals, preservatives, colors, fragrances or any other additives.
Many people believe that cold sores are always one strain of the herpes virus and that has been proven to be incorrect. Cold Sores can be in the form of HSV1 or HSV2, and genital herpes can be in the form of HSV2 or HSV1.
OUR STUDIES:
A study of 12 volunteers (6 male, 6 female) ages 2 months to 88 years was conducted by Dr. Fornari of Bluffton, SC. The study showed that the product worked very well on all but one female participant in remedying their herpes outbreak.
A second study was done for 1 year and was started in November 2008 in which volunteers were solicited via www.skinconsultation.org. We mailed product to over 600 people for this self-reporting study. Participants monitor their results when using the product for each outbreak and then fill out a questionnaire to submit at the end of each outbreak. As of December 2009, we are no longer accepting new study participants but we are still getting more feedback as people have a chance to try Citrumed on their outbreaks.
To qualify as a participant, each person has to have multiple outbreaks per year. Some study participants had only cold sores, some only genital herpes and many had both. Amongst the questions asked in the feedback form is to rank the product’s effectiveness. About 70% of people said the product worked well or extremely well. Many people commented Citrumed was by far the best product they have ever tried. 15% of participants said Citrumed worked about as well as other products and another 15% said it did not work well or did not work at all for them.
Since people in the study develop several outbreaks a year, there are symptoms these people get that tell them an outbreak is about to start. Some people have commented that they were not sure if they had a “real” outbreak when using our product. The reason is that the outbreak was gone very quickly - more quickly than they had ever experienced. The results from this group of people are typically not used in this study but we believe that most of those people had indeed “real” outbreaks but could not acknowledge them because Citrumed relieved the symptoms so quickly.
About one third of people experienced a tingling or somewhat of a “stinging” sensation when using the product. Some participants indicated they liked this sensation since it makes them feel the product is actually working and “doing something.” It is important to note that the majority of people did not feel any uncomfortable sensation at all.
For anyone trying Citrumed, we recommend applying it every hour if possible. If the outbreak goes away in a day or two or never really materializes, then the product may be used less often the next time an outbreak shows up. Every person has to figure out for themselves what the frequency is where optimal results can be achieved. Every person’s body reacts differently, and there is no way for us to say what works best for everyone.
CONCERNS from study participants:
There were several initial concerns mentioned by the study participants.
Many people were concerned the roll on ball might spread the virus further. Citrumed’s formula includes a natural anti microbial that makes it impossible for the virus to live in the solution of the product. So the simple answer is that the roll on ball does not spread the virus. In addition, with hundreds of study participants using the product, we would have found out if the roll on ball spread the virus.
Another concern was the frequency of use. For some people, using the product a few times a day is sufficient. For others it needs to be applied more often, perhaps as much as every hour. We recommend applying the product as frequently as possible. While applying the product often is relatively easy for cold sores, it is not as easy when it comes to non-facial herpes due to the outbreak location.
Some people reported that they shared the roll on applicator bottle with another person. Naturally, we would never recommend two people sharing the same roll on applicator. We do offer a spray bottle that could be shared between partners.
Since we have citrus extract in our formula, some people were concerned that our product might sting because of the acid. Since our unique process removes most of the acid from the citrus, a stinging sensation can occur but our study shows that fewer than 10% of participants stopped using Citrumed due to this. Some participants noted that they actually did like the product to sting because they felt it was working on their outbreak. If a stinging sensation occurs and that sensation is too strong for you, you should stop using the product. Every person’s body reacts differently to natural ingredients.
SUMMARY:
It is apparent that many people are not satisfied with the current prescription and OTC herpes treatment options available and looking for something better. There are products that work fairly well for many people but they are not fast acting nor do they change their lives dramatically for the better. Hiding out waiting for the outbreak to disappear is not a good option for most people. The fact that we are offering a fast acting, easy to apply facial & non-facial all natural alternative appeals to a lot of people. While our product does not work on every person, over 70% of the participants in our study have found a realistic option in Citrumed to remedy their HSV1 and HSV2 outbreaks. We believe Citrumed works for more people than any other product available OTC today. However, the most amazing fact is that Citrumed seems to stop an outbreak right in its track for a large number of those who suffer from herpes outbreaks – if it is applied right at the first signs of their outbreak. Many people have stated that this product has changed their lives dramatically for the better and they are thrilled that Citrumed is now available for sale to the general public.
